Rose

“ROSE” - 36” X 36’ - Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Last year, when we lived on Le Plateau in Montreal, our kind neighbours across the street Justine and Louis offered me old newspapers found within the walls of an old triplex in the neighbourhood. In the past, they were used to insulate homes from the harsh Quebec winters.  One of those newspapers, dated April 2nd, 1949, inspired me to create this unique piece. I now introduce you to ROSE born in Coaticook in the Eastern Townships in 1887. She just celebrated her 62nd birthday with several “Old Fashioned”…

SUPERVACHE

SUPERVACHE - 20” x 20” This is the smallest cow painting I’ve made to date. The cow may be diminutive but she certainly is the coolest. She wears an S on her snout and calls herself Supervache (Supercow). Texture created with articles from La Presse (food section, 2016), a map of the Montreal metro stations, an ad for J&B scotch, swatches from my mother-in-law and plaster.

BRIGITTE

BRIGITTE -  40” X 40” Brigitte Bardot is an actress, a model, a singer and an animal rights activist. For this reason I inserted DOG LOVER in the cow’s right ear. Other items hidden within the painting: bits of this actress’s life, photographs, samples of porno magazines as well as a subscription form for Playboy dating back to the 70s. Texture created with swatches from my mother-in-law, plaster and burlap.

201

P.S. I LOVE YOU (available)

“P.S. I LOVE YOU” - 60” x 60” After many versions of one of my favorite muses, I created this unique Palm Springs interpretation as an homage to Gene Autry, John Wayne, Chuck Connors and the many celebrity cowboys who were often part of Palm Springs from the 30’s to the 50’s. Yours to find: Magazine article on the Palm Springs Art Museum, Palm Springs Map, New York Times articles on Paramount Pictures to honor the numerous movie stars who made Palm Springs their hometown, etc.

TOKYO

TOKYO : 72” X 72” - Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. This commissioned piece is the 4th version in my cow series.  Its composition is similar to its three cousins, however it stands out with its unique colour choices, designs, patterns and personalized items. Because of the owner’s strong ties to Japan, I have entitled this painting: TOKYO.  Notice it on the left ear. FRIDA KALHO’s life was very significant to this SAMSON collector.  For this reason, a love letter from FRIDA to her Diego is incorporated into the upper portion of the painting. The colours of Colombia are also of importance here.  Therefore,…

HER MAJESTY

« HER MAJESTY » - 48” X 48” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. This commissioned piece definitely has an English feel. The bronze crowns symbolize British royalty. You can also find a map and logo of the London Tube (metro subway system), David Beckham’s # 7 Jersey (Manchester United), and London’s shared bicycle system. The owners of this work, being quite cosmopolitan, are characterized with many hints of their journeys. To capture their attachment to Montenegro and Serbia, an olive tree branch extends from our muse’s mouth. If you look closely, you will also find a Swiss flag,…

Ah La Vache! (OMG)

Ah La Vache!!  - 48” X 48” - Acrylic and mixed media. After many owls, moose and other friendly animals, here I am with my first piece in the bovine department. I have to admit that I had great pleasure painting this muse.  This piece reminds me of my childhood growing up in the countryside and running in the fields close to home. Often, I ran through a herd of cows and had to accelerate the pace when a bull was chasing me.  Believe it or not, this funny scenario happened at almost every outing.  This could explain why I…
