Many thanks and congratulations to Jocelyne and Pierre for their new SAMSON. This piece, entitled LE MAYFLOWER, was in an auction to raise funds for BLEU MASSAWIPPI. Our common goal is to safeguard the waters of our beloved Lac Massawippi. SAMSON

THE MAYFLOWER
– 28” X 20” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

During the 1800’s, steamboats were used to transport necessary goods between the villages of Ayer’s Cliff and North Hatley. These boats also offered residents pleasant voyages on and around the majestic Lake Massawippi. The MAYFLOWER was one of them. It was in 1894 that it sunk during one of the many social evenings it offered. It was only in 2017, 123 years later, that her wreckage was found.

Embedded within the layers of paint, you will locate an article on the discovery of the MAYFLOWER wreck as well as several items related to my childhood memories such as Campbell’s soup, TIDE laundry soap and the SUPERMAN logo. You will also find things that make me smile such as one of my favorite shoe brands MELVIN & HAMILTON, one of Quebec’s best gins, the great ROYAL MOUNT and the musical score of “CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT” by the iconic Elton John.

May this creation make you smile every time you look at it and remind you of the importance of fighting and uniting our efforts to safeguard the quality of the waters of our beloved lake.

In turn, I am honoured to join BLEU MASSAWIPPI. All together, it is undeniable that we will achieve our goal.
