Within the painting you’ll find a blackbird, the city’s symbolic bird, a tax bill from the school board as well as the emblem of the University of Sherbrooke, my alma mater. Textures created with plaster, La Tribune newspaper 1992 and swatches from my mother-in-law

COURNOYER - 30”X40” - acrylic and mixed techniques on canvas This painting honours the famed Montreal Canadiens hockey player, Yvan Cournoyer. I remember watching hockey games with my father and brother back in the 70s. My father nicknamed him the Crow because he was in every corner of the rink at any given time. Between layers of paint you will notice brand names that remind me of my youth such as Vachon cakes, Labatt 50, Campbell soups, Jell-O, Mountain Dew to name a few. Have fun trying to find them!
“LOST TOGETHER” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. This piece was commissioned to celebrate “Yélène”s birthday and to emphasize many unique moments of a Montreal family. Besides their dwelling in the big city, they also have a “pied à terre” in the Owl’s Head area of the Eastern Townships. So it goes without saying that this new character has found its perfect home. Embedded between the layers of paint, you will find items that have been precious to Mathieu, Marie-Hélène and their kids throughout the years. You will locate their first car (Volkswagen Beetle), Bailey…
“LA POUTINE” – 40” X 30” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. As you know, I like to incorporate personal experiences and culture into my art work. For this piece, I’ve chosen one of Quebec’s best known delights: LA POUTINE. Embedded within the layers of paint, you will find tips and secrets on how to make the perfect Poutine, our Chef Ricardo’s delectable gravy recipe and of course, the very controversial origin of this little indulgence. Story says that it all started at RESTAURANT IDÉAL in Warwick, QC in the 1950’s. Bon appétit!! Background: Quebec’s chef Ricardo’s recipes, Montreal…
“THE BARISTA” - 48” X 36” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Eyes wide open, your BARISTA is certainly not at his first dose of caffeine of the day. The word barista (in Italian) means barman. In North America, the evolution of “Cafe Arte” has flourished in recent years. In Montreal, for example, third generation coffee houses have boomed the coffee industry and this new way of living. We can find them in all neighbourhoods mostly in Mile-End, Le Plateau and Little Italy. I invite you to search between brush strokes the definition and history of BARISTA in italian, maps…
“LE SOMMELIER” (Wine Steward) - 48” X 36” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. When I have the opportunity of listening to a SOMMELIER describing wines, I immediately embark on an adventure that makes me dream and travel. Hence, I give you the challenge to discover underneath the multiple layers of paint, maps of the regions of CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE and certain parts of Italy as well as images of vines, wine cellars, corks, etc. You will also notice labels of renowned vineyards, an article (in french) of Montreal newspaper LA PRESSE “It’s the cork’s fault”, receipts of our…
SENPAI – 28” X 20” -Acrylic and other material on canvas. SENPAI indicates a high level of skills in Japanese dialect. Here, our subject (a right-handed guy) reached the black belt in karate. Therefore he deserves a certain respect. Besides this outstanding distinction, he studied at the prestigious Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique (Polytechnical School). He is also a decent golf player and, like LA GAUCHÈRE, he excels in volleyball. He met the latter in 2000 and they got married two years later. This year, they celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary and share their very eventful lives with three boys. Besides, their…
