MAHAL KITA – 24” x 36” – Acrylic and Mixed Media on Wood
This personalized abstract creation is part of my AZUL collection, celebrating a couple’s 10th wedding anniversary. It is a surprise gift from Maria-Victoria to her husband Richard.
Embedded within the layers of paint, you will find items that symbolize their loving journey.
First, I challenge you to find the representations of the origins of our lovebirds. On the left, you will locate a map of the Philippines, the birth country of Maria-Victoria. On the right, a map of the Quebec City region, where Richard grew up.
You will also find birthday cards that Maria-Victoria gave to Richard over the years, as well as a love letter written especially for this occasion.
Some items are uniquely related to their wedding. As the couple wrote each other’s vows, you will find highlights of the bride’s loving words, as well as the official wedding invitation entitled “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.” Additionally, there are the lyrics and musical score of their first dance song: “CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU” by Elvis Presley.
Health and wellness are important components for this couple; therefore, you will find symbols representing their favourite activities of cycling and golfing.
In the textures, you will notice sand and pebbles that I personally picked up from the shore of our majestic Lake Massawippi, the area where Maria-Victoria and Richard have settled to share their precious life together.
I have entitled this painting “MAHAL KITA,” meaning “I LOVE YOU” in Filipino. You will find the words on the canvas, along with the date of their celebration, June 20th, 2014.
