“GIN & TONIQUE” – 28” X 20” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas.
Those who know me well, know that I am behind supporting local businesses. One could say that the COVID pandemic has made this even more important to me than ever. In this painting, I have incorporated many local gins as well as 1642 tonic, also a local product.
The colours I chose have a special significance in this piece. Certain gins (like the Bleu Royal brand) change colours when something acidic such as tonic or lemon are added. A beautiful display of colours appears in front of our eyes, ranging from violet to pink to fuchsia…and it’s not a hallucination!

Embedded within the layers of paint, you will find labels of gins produced locally as well as the tonic 1642. You’ll also find alcohol percentages, a description of how gin is made, the S from Superman and the word CHEERS.

Textures: plaster and burlap.
