The rooster is a universal symbol of strength, pride, and renewal. It announces the light after the night and embodies the ability to rise again and move forward.
In this composition, the rooster’s plumes tell a family story. Within this vibrant and colourful arrangement, certain feathers evoke the flags of China, Ireland, Uganda, Tanzania, and India — the countries of origin of the parents of the new owners of this artwork.
Like the feathers of a single bird, these cultures come together to form a unique identity. The piece pays tribute to the resilience and courage of the ancestors who endured hardships in order to offer a better future to the generations that followed. It is in this spirit that I titled this painting “OUR ROOTS.”
