MR. HOVEY – 28” X 20” – Acrylic and mixed media on canvas.
This painting is the second of a collection that honours my birth place, the Eastern Townships. For those who have not received the latest news, I now have a small studio in this charming village called North Hatley, located on the shores of the majestic Lake Massawippi.
Embedded between the layers of paint, you will find an article on the history of the lake as well as several items related to some of my childhood memories such as labels of Campbell’s soup and TIDE laundry soap, the SUPERMAN symbol, etc. You will also find items that make me smile such as the logo of one of my favorite shoe brands MELVIN & HAMILTON, one of the best Quebec gins ROYAL MOUNT, the musical score of “CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT” by the iconic Elton John, etc.
In order to pay homage to the one who “discovered” the precious Lake Massawippi in 1792, I decided to baptize this character MONSIEUR HOVEY.
I take this opportunity to send a heartfelt message to the Quebec population so that each of us make a little effort in preserving the quality of the water in our precious lakes. All together, we can make a big difference.
